Tuscan Triumph
Kitchen by Gheza Group Design Studio
A part of the original Arcady Estate of Montecito, this beautiful historic Tuscan villa was built around 1895. Much of the graceful structure remained intact; however, the kitchen underwent a remodel in the 1970s and, as a result, was dark, narrow and uninspired.

The new owners were determined to reinvent the kitchen and, in the process, develop an elegant culinary zone consistent with the vintage good looks throughout the rest of the home. Douglas Gheza with Gheza Group Design Studio was called in to meet this challenge.

The proportions of the space were extremely long and narrow and confined by a stairwell. To maximize space, Gheza and team tucked the refrigerator beneath the stairs. They then got to work completely reconfiguring the room, incorporating a small addition expanding the space and flooding it with natural light. WmOh’s Custom Cabinetry was used, and the Tuscan door style was a perfect selection for this century’s-old villa. A wine storage center keeps reds and whites at the perfect temperature.

Warm, light colors, natural stone throughout and a beautiful beam detail in the ceiling combine to create the elegance that this grand home deserves.
